Standing With Our People, Serving With Our Hearts

For we are God’s co-workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.

In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, our priests, sisters, brothers, and volunteers have faced the same devastation as the communities they serve — rectories, convents, and churches damaged or destroyed, most still without power, water, or internet.

Yet, true to their vocation, they remain beside their people. In Seaford Town, for example, Fr. Morris chose to stay, living from his vehicle so he could continue ministering to those most affected, even helping with emergency helicopter deliveries from Samaritan’s Purse when roads were impassable.

The Franciscan Friars at Mary, Gate of Heaven Church – Negril, Jamaica, share daily updates and impact of their efforts. Our Diocese is working with Catholic Relief Services, Caritas Antilles Inc, Samaritan’s Purse, Food for the Poor, and many local partners to bring relief, hope, and healing.

Our ministers are the community, sharing in its suffering and faith. “For we are God’s co-workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.” — 1 Cor 3:9

Among many structures in Montego Bay, the Diocese’s Offices are severely damaged and communication is limited. We are coordinating efforts and are making progress daily.
